Belleville rendez-vous

Belleville rendez-vous

Belleville rendez-vous [videorecording] / Les Armateurs present in association with Production Champion, Vivi Film, France 3 Cin

A bicyclist is kidnapped from the Tour de France by mysterious gangsters; his grandmother travels to the city of Belleville (which has a sardonic version of the Statue of Liberty in its harbor), where she tracks him down with the help of a musical trio gone to seed, the Belleville Triplets. (Had to see this because of the humorous portrayal of Tour de France cyclist aspirants and the way they're portrayed - as the propulsion for a ship to America! Very original. :-) --jen)

Tom is a loving, well-respected family man from a small Indiana town. When two criminals show up at his diner, Tom is forced to take action and thwart the robbery attempt. Suddenly heralded as a local hero who took the courage to stand up to crime, people look up to Tom as a man of high moral regard. But all the media attention attracts the likes of the mob, who show up at Tom's doorstep. Is it a case of mistaken identity or does Tom have a history that no one knows about? (Another very thoughtful, well-written, questioning movie that can also be used to start a conversation about the power of media in our country. Originally a graphic novel, this well-adapted movie has a scene between Tom and his wife that's pretty memorable! -jen)
